The POOF! was originally set against a light teal background. When Mike showed this version to his passively obnoxious professor friend (let me sum up this guy- we stayed at his home for several days and hung out with him and his wife, but he then proceeds to address us as "Mike and Priya"on their Christmas card), he said- ah, a water gun. I wasn't flattered at the response, but I saw what he saw, and changed the background to white, and it is much better for it.

The Queen of Misdirection
I got the inspiration for this at a coffeeshop in Amsterdam. Everyone was glued to the soccer match on tv (the world cup was going on). My eyes wandered and came to rest on a lean, art deco wall scone that hung right beside our table - it reminded me of a barrel gun. I knew I wanted to do something with it, and I played around with the image until I landed on an idea for paying homage to my much cherished Agatha Christie. I like deco and I like pop art and this is one of those paintings where I played with both. I think deco also gives me the opportunity to bring in some traditional Indian motifs. The background was inspired by a cream sari with red embroidery I saw on Pinterest.
